    Project < Back Cut Carbon Emission from Ships Client Nautillect Location India Problem Statement IMO is introducing EEXI and CII from Jan ' 2023 and the ships may be required to cut down their speeds to meet the regulatory requirements associated with the carbon emissions from ships' funnels. Project Brief The company was founded to help shipowners improve their operating efficiency with the help of Industrial IoT, data visualization, and artificial intelligence. With the IMO introducing regulations to monitor and certify ships' energy efficiency and carbon intensity measured as the amount of carbon dioxide emitted per ton nautical mile of cargo carried, many old ships were required to cut down their maximum speed. The reduction in ship speed would mean lower charter rates for the owners. The company already had a data visualization platform. A product that could help route ships based on the weather conditions and a ship's response to weather conditions could help ship owners improve efficiency and reduce carbon emissions without cutting down on the speed and engine power. Several open-source routing solutions are available for routing land-based transportation. Those solutions could be extended to the ocean if we could develop a model that helps translate every point at sea onto a cost that needs to be paid to pass that point. Weather conditions could also be translated into additional costs to route the ships through the lowest-cost path. A weather model was developed using open-source data to deliver a routing solution that could route ships at the minimum cost between any two points at sea.     Project < Back Design a Nutrition App Client Confidential Location India Problem Statement Design a mobile app that incorporates detailed nutrition information along with the restaurant menu, so that customers can make place their orders based on their nutrition needs. Project Brief Customers who frequently dine outside either because they are on business or because they cannot cook at home were the target segment. ​ Since the primary purpose was to assist the customers place their orders, the design solution required an innovative way to help customers balance their orders for both the nutrition and taste. ​ Research showed that customers understand that calorie count and nutrition value depends upon actual preparation and ingredients. They contended that having nutrition information while placing order could not only help them make healthy choices but they could also avoid wastage by ordering food in proportion to their nutritional needs. Ideation with various stake holders led us to the design an electronic menu with detailed nutrition information that could be scanned to select, change and place orders electronically. The stakeholders agreed to make most of their serving available in three different sizes, so that customers could select the size to suit their nutritional needs. ​ Menu segregated by categories allowed all items to be listed with detailed nutrition information. The cart allowed quick addition and deletions and change of serving sizes to quickly finalise the order. ​ While users received most of the features warmly, they requested for two items to improve navigation and reduce time for placing orders. The first was a search option and the second an addition on delete button on the cart.     Project < Back Infrastructure Market Strategy Client Sembawang E & C Location Singapore Problem Statement With the current market dynamics and company capabilities, it is almost impossible for the company to win profitable business as quoted price is the single most important project award criteria. Project Brief At the brink of global financial crisis in 2008, with a new CEO at the helm and complex market dynamics, Sembawang E & C wanted to reconsider its market strategy. Mr Richard Grosvenor, CEO Sembawang, appointed our partner, Mr S Maurya, to study the market and suggest a go-to market strategy. Sembawang had a track record of executing Singapore government's infrastruture and housing projects but after its divestment by the government, it had to compete with other market participants. A detailed study of the major South East Asian markets enumerated that though Buildings was the largest segment, the competition in the space was intensive. Market entry barriers were low and local contractors were willing to undercut their margins to build project track record. Price was the single most differentiating criteria in the building construction space. Major South East Asian countries were increasing their infrastructure spend to push their economies. Except for a few planned projects in Ports, Airports, rail and waste water treatment, major government budgetary allocation was for roads, tunnels and power plants. Most governments awarded Ports, Airports, LRT, water, power plants, O&G and petrochemical projects on the development basis to major US and European Developers who preferred construction contractors from their geographies to reduce their contractual risk. O & G upstream and downstream investments picked up due to high crude oil prices. Singapore government finalised plans to play a significant role in the development and growth of the petrochemical industry on the Jurong island. A detailed segmentation of the market and SWOT analysis of each segment, followed by a two days offsite workshop with the senior management led to two-fold market strategy to be executed in three phases. The first phase was to build on the standalone strengths of Sembawang by creating the niche as a developer of housing and civil infrastructure projects. It was agreed that Sembawang should move up the value chain and launch an Infrastructure fund to fund projects in partnership with other investors by reinvesting project construction margins in the project as the project developer. This would allow Sembawang to minimize investment on its own account and help build a project pipeline to sustain cash flows. Sembawang Securities was launched to give wings to the development strategy. The second phase was to bid for energy and petrochemical projects on EPC basis in JV with the partner companies and to build up experience to move to development space.
